Rainbow Street

Rainbow painted walkway that leads to a white church
Rainbow Street is located in Northeast Iceland in the fishing town of Seyðisfjörður. While the picturesque street is beginning to grow in popularity, it is still a hidden gem in North Iceland. It is not right off the Ring Road so you will need to budget additional travel time to allow time to visit this town. You also must drive up and down a mountain to access the town which can be quite foggy at times so extra time may be needed for cautious driving. If travelling in winter seasons, it may be more difficult to access this town due to unfavourable weather conditions on the mountain.
However, once you reach the small town, the extra commute is well worth the trek. The rainbow path leads to a beautiful blue church which is open for visitors in the summer months. The path was established in 2016 in honour of the Pride Parade and is repainted every year. It has become an iconic symbol of the memorable town.
The town itself is also extremely picturesque with small shops and views of the Harbour. We ate at a restaurant beside the Rainbow Road called 'El Grillo Bar' and then walked around town marvelling at the quaint and idyllic scenery. Seyðisfjörður is known as 'one of the best small towns in Iceland' and it's definitely worth the visit.
We stayed overnight at the Seyðisfjörður Hafaldan Hospital Hostel, which was an old hospital which has been converted into a Hostel - it was a unique stay in and of itself.
