Kex Hostel

When we travelled to Iceland on our first trip back in 2015, our very first night stayed at the ultra hip and funky, 'Kex Hostel', located in downtown Reykjavik.
Located very close to the waterfront and the popular 'Solfar' monument and walking distance from all the popular attractions, this inconspicuous hostel blends seamlessly into its surroundings.
Owned by two ex-Icelandic football players and housed in an old biscuit factory, this hostel exudes a chic and cool atmosphere. The lobby and bar boast an open-concept design, full of reclaimed furniture and vintage treasures. There are old gym lockers, a library full of vintage books and maps adorning the walls. The atmosphere is not to be matched - even arriving at 6am we were greeted with a lobby and restaurant bustling with people. You can enjoy a delicious breakfast or lunch while overlooking the waterfront. Later in the day, the bar becomes a vibrant atmosphere full of tourists and locals alike.
The rooms themselves were comfortable, and there are many communal rooms where you can whip up your own meals if you choose to do so.
Sure, 'Kex Hostel' may be a bit pricier compared to traditional European counterparts, but it makes up for it with its character and style. It's not just a place to sleep for the night - it's a glimpse into the charming and vibrant spirit of Iceland. Even if you don't book a night here, non-guests are still warmly welcomed to enjoy a delicious meal and good company.
If you find yourself in Iceland's beautiful capital, be sure to pop into the 'Kex'.
