Schloss Oberhofen

Schloss Oberhofen is a hidden gem located on the shores of Lake Thun. The castle, built in the 13h century, has served as a museum since 1954. The castle offers spectacular views of the lake and surrounding mountains.  

When we visited the castle, it was as if we had the whole grounds to ourselves as there were no other tourists around. While we did not go inside and visit the castle itself, we strolled through the garden, admiring the beautiful flowers and surrounding scenery. There was also a small wooden swing in the middle of the garden that was something out of a fairytale. The gardens would be a great spot to have a picnic or take photos.

After exploring the beauty of the park, we had a bite to eat at the restaurant in the castle and enjoyed the spectacular views and great service. 

To get to the castle, you can take bus no. 21 from Thun railway station in the direction of Oberhofen-Interlaken Ost. You can also continue along to Interlaken after visiting the Oberhofen castle to make for an exciting afternoon.

I highly recommend taking a few hours to explore this one-of-a-kind castle - I promise you will be whisked away by its romanticism.
