Statue of King Wenceslas Riding an Upside-Down Dead Horse in Prague

When walking through the Lucerna Passage in Prague, you may stop dead in your tracks at the peculiar statue which hangs before you.

Contrasting the typical powerful symbol of a King riding on a horse, this flips that image upside down, quite literally as the statue shows King Wenceslas riding an upside down deadhorse, its neck and mane dangling towards the ground. Created by controversial artist David Cerny, this sculpture is meant to mock the famous statue of King Wenceslas riding a horse which sits in the Wenceslas Square.

It is believed that this is a satirical nod to the Czech president Vaclav Klaus. However, the artist has not revealed the true meaning of the statue. Regardless, it will definitely make you scratch your head!
