St. Beatus Caves is a hidden gem on the shores of Lake Thun in the Swiss Alps. Legend has it that a monk in 100 AD named St. Beatus approached the caves and was encountered by a massive fire-breathing dragon. In heroic monk fashion, St. Beatus engaged in a battle against the dragon eventually slaying it.

Upon approaching the caves which are located atop a cliff, we were taken aback by the beautiful waterfalls cascading down the entrance. There are several trails that travel up the mountains or around the surrounding lake which you can also explore if you have time.

The caves are completely safe and easily accessible for viewers. While you may not get a glimpse of any dragons, you will be enthralled by the beautiful formations and colours in the cave.  A ticket with a guided tour is a mere 19 CHF and is highly recommended. If you'd prefer to skip the caves, you can always climb to the top of the cliffs for free and take in the magnificent views.

St. Beatus Caves are a wonder to behold and should be part of any Lake Thun/ Interlaken Itinerary!
