Sarakiniko 'Moon' Beach

While you may have Santorini and Mykonos on your list of must-visit islands in Greece, Milos is a hidden gem with an incredible beach that is out of this world.

Sarakiniko, or the 'Moon Beach', is renowned for its likeness to the moon's surface, with majestic white rock formations towering over a beautiful beach.

We headed to Sarakiniko from our hotel on the outskirts of town and enjoyed a lovely walk to the beach. Upon approach, it truly felt like we were on a distant planet. We loved walking around all the white stone formations and checking out the many shell fossils that are hidden amongst the rocks.

The water surrounding the cove is crystal clear and we brought goggles to explore the white fish swimming around. There is also a really neat network of tunnels within the rock formations that you can explore but it was quite dark (and a bit scary!). The beach is devoid of shops, restaurants and even toilets so it truly feels like you have found an undisturbed slice of heaven (minus the crowds).

To know before you go: It used to be that you could only access the beach by car, ATV or by foot but now there is a bus that runs service to Sarakiniko - the cost is 1.80 euros per way.
