Predjama Castle

When you're visiting Slovenia, be sure to take a worthwhile detour to a castle that's Guinness Book of Records-worthy.
The Predjama Castle earned its spot in the 2015 in the Guinness World Records as the largest cave castle, housed in a 115-foot rock cliff. This castle is definitely one of the most extraordinary I have ever seen in my life - the boundary between natural rock and human craftsmanship blurs seamlessly.
My favourite anecdote is about the Castle's history. In the mid-1400s, the castle was laid siege by a local Robin Hood type named Erasmus von Lueg. A year after overtaking the castle, Erasmus met his fate in an unexpected way - while using the nearby outhouse. It was a servant that betrayed him, signalling to the Roman empire with a torch. The enemies sent a cannonball through the air, striking the outhouse and leaving Erasmus in a rather messy and unfortunate situation. The outhouse was rebuilt after that and still stands to this day, should anyone be bold enough to enter.
The Predjama Castle is such a unique and magnificent sight to behold that is truly awe-inspiring. Be sure to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy while taking in the impressive structure. Don't forget to explore the Postojna Caves when you are in the area, as they are located a mere 10km away.
