Painted Lady Houses in Grimsby, Ontario

I have lived in Ontario since I was born and it was only this past year that I discovered the enchanting Grimsby Gingerbread houses, otherwise known as the Painted Ladies.

These colourful and whimsical Victorian-style beach houses are quite the sight to behold, as they are painted in vibrant colours. The cottages date back to the 1800s with some houses being over 150 years old. Prior to their construction, the area used to be a Methodist Community and, to this day, an old bell in the heart of the park that still stands today, commemorating that time. Since the 1850s, the houses have been lovingly renovated and are meticulously maintained. Each house is decorated differently and they look like a kaleidoscope of colour and style.

We spent the afternoon exploring the houses, capturing photos and then heading to the check out the Grimsby Beach. While you can spend the day at the beach, it is advised not to swim in the water.

If you're looking for an afternoon road trip close to Toronto, I highly recommend visiting the Painted Ladies in Grimsby. On your way home, be sure to stop in at the local Puddicombe Farm where you can try some of their homemade goods and cider!
