Kamari Beach in Greece with volcanic black sand

Most people travel to Santorini, Greece to check out the unparallelled sunsets. However, if you're looking for a day trip from Oia away from most of the tourist crowds, hop on an ATV and head over to Kamari Beach.

Located 10km southeast of Fira, this 5km black sand beach is sure to leave you in awe with its beautifully clear waters and epic surrounding cliffs. The beach itself is composed of black sand from volcanic activity.  While the sand itself is not the most comfortable to sit on, there are plenty of umbrellas and chairs provided, perfect for an afternoon in the sun.

There is also a promenade for when you need a break from the sun with numerous restaurants, bars and shops selling clothes, jewelry and other trinkets. We stopped at the ice cream shop on the promenade for a sweet treat before strolling the promenade and enjoying the lively atmosphere.

While you are in the area, you should definitely check out the nearby Santorini Brewing Company, a small microbrewery on the island that is located 6 minutes from the beach. They are known for their 'Crazy Donkey' brand with 5 beers to choose from, including 'Yellow Donkey' and 'Lazy Ass'. You can tour the brewery, have a beer tasting and check out the cute merchandise. We picked up some Lazy Ass on the way to the beach and enjoyed it while sitting near the crystal blue waters. It was the perfect afternoon.
