Abandoned Prehistoric Forest

Nestled off the highway in Irish Hills, Michigan, a hidden gem awaits. Here, the remnants of what was once a thriving small amusement park dedicated to dinosaurs lies.
Prehistoric Forest came to life in 1963 and was once home to many attractions, including over 60 dinosaur sculptures built by sculptor James Sidwell. Guides would take awe-struck visitors through the park and explain the many lifestyles and habitats of each dinosaur. There was even a small train that would traverse the entirety of the park. The park's essence was that it boasted a man-made volcano at the centre of the park. While it was a source of family fun in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, it was eventually left to destitution in the 1990s when the allure of the Irish Hills dimmed and Prehistoric Forest fell into extinction.
Officially closing its doors in 1990, the park was abandoned and vulnerable both to nature's wrath and to trespassers and vandals alike. However, there are still a few sculptures visible from the road that have been maintained what was once their original allure.
As we walked through the open areas of the park, we could envision the magic that once was a vibrant and exciting amusement park. Today the ruins of Prehistoric Forest stand as a testament to the passage of time. Amidst the decay, the echoes of joy can be heard from a forgotten past, carried on through the timeless sculptures that still stand majestically.
