Englischer Garten

If you're looking for a slice of nature outside the busy downtown Munich, look no further than the Englisher Garten, or English Garden.
Listed as one of the world's largest urban parks, this 910-acre oasis is even larger than Central Park in New York City and offers many activities, from jogging, pedal boating and surfing (Yes, you read that right!). There are so many hidden gems nestled within the park, from the Japanese teahouse to the Steinerne Bank. If you find yourself a bit thirsty from your walk, there's even 4 beer gardens to quench your thirst, or you can stop at the many food stalls for a traditional Bavarian pretzel. To top off your afternoon, you can go on a boat ride on the Kleinhesseloher See, a picturesque lake in the heart of the park.
Though we were short on time, we could have very easily spent the afternoon in the park, exploring the over 100 bridges and canals. We particularly loved watching the surfers on the standing wave in the park which looked very challenging but fun.
I'd highly recommend visiting this oasis if you're looking for a peaceful escape from the bustling downtown core.
