Grjótagjá Cave

If you're a fan of the series, 'Game of Thrones', you absolutely need to make a trip to the Grjótagjá Cave and thermal spring.
The cave was made famous after the episode, "Kissed by Fire", episode in Game of Thrones when Jon Snow and Ygritte got romantically involved in the cave. While the waterfall in the episode was superficially added by CGI, the cave itself is still a stunning wonder to behold.
While you may know about the cave from Game of Thrones, legend also has it that an outlaw named Jón Markússon used the cave as his refuge in the 18th century. At that time, it was thought that caves were bad places to hang out as it was rumoured that they were inhabited by evil trolls, so it made for the perfect hiding spot for a bandit.
We stopped at this cave on our way out of Myvatn and, from first glance, it looks nothing more than crack in an otherwise rocky area. However, once you climb down and peer inside, you are graced by turquoise blue steaming waters. The cave itself does not appear as large as it does in the show, but it is still breathtaking and photos really don't do it justice.
While the water looks tempting enough for a dip, swimming here is strictly prohibited. While it used to be a popular bathing spot, recent volcanic activity in the area in the 70s and 80s made the temperatures too hot for swimming.
