Craigievar Castle

If you're looking for a castle that looks something straight out of a Disney movie, then you must add the Craigiever Castle to your Scotland itinerary. 

Located in the rolling hills of Aberdeenshire, this Scottish Baronial castle is off the beaten path but is well worth the visit. Construction on this castle began in 1576 and was completed in 1626 and Craigievar was a family home until the 1960s. 

While the castle was not open when we visited, we enjoyed strolling around the castle grounds, exploring the Scottish glen garden and surrounding area. The castle itself stands out from the beautiful scenery, with it's vibrant pink hue. 

Things to Know: The Castle is listed as being 2 hours and 45 minutes from Edinburgh but it took us almost 4 hours to reach the castle due to single lane roads and traffic so be sure to budget time accordingly.
