Giant Toonie in Campbellford, Ontario

Any Ontario resident undoubtedly knows about the 'Big Nickel' in Sudbury, Ontario. However, there's another giant piece of change in Ontario that doesn't get the same recognition.

We have been in Campbellville several times but it wasn't until one camping trip nearby that we stumbled upon the large 'Toonie'. Located in Old Mill Park near Ferris Provincial Park, the toonie stands magnificently at 8.2 metres high. Built in 2001, this mega-coin was built to recognize the local Campbellford artist Brent Townsend who crafted the iconic polar bear that is on the toonie, or the two-dollar coin. The town was even declared the "Home of the Two Dollar Coin" by the Canadian Mint in 1997. The toonie has the year 1996 on the back in honour of when the toonie was first introduced in Canadian currency.

The giant Toonie is completely free to visit and is definitely worth the stop on your next visit to Campbellford. The town is also incredibly picturesque and you can also grab some treats at the nearby "World's Finest Chocolate" shop.
