Child-Eater Fountain in Bern, Switzerland

The Kindlifresserbrunnen, or the 'Child-Eater Fountain' is one of Bern's oldest fountains, dating back to the 16th century.

The statue was created in 1545 by artist Hans Gieng. The statue is a giant ogre with a half-eaten child in his mouth and other victims in bags at his side. There are several theories about the origin of the child-eater but some say its likeness is that of the Krampus, the evil creature thought to punish misbehaving children during Christmastime.

Once you track down the statue in Bern, you can determine for yourself what you think the true origin of the child-eater is. Regardless, it's a good way to terrify children and adults alike!
