Abandoned Viking Village Film Set

While Stokksness Beach and Vestrahorn may already be on your Iceland itinerary, you may be pleasantly surprised when you stumble upon a hidden gem near the mountains - a hidden Viking village -- well, sort of.
In 2010, a film set was constructed on a land plot of land belonging to a local farmer. While the film itself never made it past the initial stages, the remnants of the cinematic creature have withstood time and have blended into the raw marvel of the landscape.
On our trip back to Iceland in 2021, we walked around this film set and the village came alive in our imagination. We camped on a nearby campsite adjacent to the Viking Village and neighbouring Viking Cafe. Meandering around the village, we watched the sunset from the nearby black sand beach and watched the farmer's horses grazing serenely in the field.
